wordless wednesday - almost

I have been shockingly quiet this football season. What kind of Mom would I be not to brag about my little football player? Add another bad Mommy Star to the wall. So I will attempt to redeem myself here with the great picture of Drake causing a fumble. I missed the shot where he stood up holding the recovered ball because I was jumping up and down and screaming like a deranged maniac. Yeah - I am that football mom.
But this is the real reason I love to watch him play - because as soon as he puts his helmet on, he smiles like this. ALL. THE. TIME.

weekend wrap up

Well, nothing like a weekend to remind you of the true meaning of fall in Wisconsin - football, rain, more football and of course... more rain. Drake had his second game of the season on Saturday in a torrential down pour. Like any good mother, I stood, trying to wrangle Grady away from the looming puddles, while watching 20 boys running and tackling each other through sleeting rain. The boys had fun and looked like little mud monsters when they were done. Nothing beats getting tackled in a HUGE mud puddle, and no I am not talking about Grady! I had the good fortune of having my soccer game cancelled on Sunday thus preventing me from a puddle jumping extravaganza. Believe me, there is nothing worse then the smell of soaking wet soccer cleats!!

This weekend also marked a painful loss for the Buckeyes. They obviously did not get the memo about the game on Saturday night. I can't even believe I stayed up to watch most of it. Thinking of the game still pains me. HELLO!! It was suppose to be their time to shine... sigh. No such luck.

Speaking of getting demolished - my childhood house got smooshed this weekend by one of the huge trees in our yard. It makes me so sad to see my old house that way and to think that huge tree is gone. Thankfully no one was hurt but I can't imagine the cost that is going to be involved in trying to fix a century home.

On a happy note, Drake finally got his new glasses. the first pair of glasses made him look like a bug. No seriously, they did. Hubby tried to surprise me by taking Drake to pick them up a few weeks ago. When I walked in the door from work I could not hide my horror. This is what I saw: Scary isn't it?? I feel bad because I think I actually shrieked at the sight of him then had to back peddle because I hurt his feelings. Slap another Bad Mommy Star on the mantle boys and girls! I returned those glasses and out we went to search for new ones. I have not had a chance to snap a picture of his new specs but they are quite dashing. Maybe once he finally pulls out his front tooth that has been loose for months... But that is another story for another day!

photohunt 126- strings

I tried to be all creative with my picture, but due to one serious head cold, this was all I could come up with. Today is Drake's first football game of the season. These are the strings on his shoulder pads. He plays football, I play futbol..... sigh.

Be sure to check out all the other photo hunters HERE!! If you are playing along, add you link below and leave some comment luv!!

rantings of a soccer chic

I wasn't going to go here, but after much pondering and many, many nagging thoughts about this psychotic team I played last night, I felt the need to vent. Oh you Lady Dragons, I think you are playing way out of your league. We have no room for your poor sportsmanship and lack of, shall I say, skills?? Shoving other players because they beat you to the ball is not looked upon highly, neither is hacking at their ankles. And you, oh over confident goalie, should not dive head first towards a ball at an opponents feet and then scream foul. While we, the Cosmos, do follow the so called 'halo rule', it does not include plays that involve lack of forethought. It also does not encourage you to hunker down, with your face level to your opponents foot, when they take a shot on goal. This is just...well.... stupid. And to make matters worse, when the game is over, you neglect to shake hands and say 'nice game', which would have demonstrated good sportsmanship, when you were massacred 7-0. But who am I to point out your short comings?? No, you were able to demonstrate that at too well when you tried to pick a fight with two of my fellow teammates after the game about roughing the goalie. (Please see previous statements about the stupidity of the aforementioned goalie). For some strange reason your goalie felt that no one should come within 20 feet of her, let alone touch her in any way. Obviously she has not been playing long or she would know that the goalie takes the brunt of the games shots as well as contact with other players. Typically goalies come towards players with their feet, not their heads, thus taking out opposing players as they charge the goal. But this would mean that she had even the smallest inkling of how to play soccer, which by her demonstration last night, she does not. I can't wait to see what she does when outdoor begins in three weeks and her goal box triples in size! Maybe they will be moved down a league by then...one can only hope!

da boys

It is football Sunday in this house and the boys enjoyed a day of relaxing and cheering. Only one of the teams we were cheering for won today but the Packers won yesterday so that makes the world a better place, at least in this house! Grady is not one for sitting but he did stop his endless running for this one picture. Now I just have to wrangle him up for some stories and it is off to bed for him and off to soccer for me!

it's game time!!!

The count down has officially begun. It is now only hours until game time. I am so excited to watch this game that I am contemplating putting the boys down extra early so I can enjoy the pre-game show as well. Drake has shown quite the interest in watching the game so I may let him stay up a bit if he follows the "official game" bylaws. There are too many to list and if I did you would definitely think I was a wack job! A girl's gotta have rituals :) One of which is attire.
I already have on my buckeye necklace which ironically Grady keeps trying to confiscate. I tried to let him wear it but he kept insisting on trying to eat it. Sigh.... what is a buckeye girl to do?! So I have now safely placed it out of reach until he is asleep. I am hoping for a better game then last year, yes I do still remember how they were throttled by Florida. And when I finally get the horrific image out of my head my kind and gentle Florida loving neighbor is more then willing to remind me.... damn him!! Off to start the pre-game rituals. OH......IO!!!

oh.....io!!

I have been trying to refrain but I can't hold out any longer. YEAH!!!! Sorry for all those who are not fans or whose teams were less then thrilling this year (like a certain husband of mine) but I am quite excited. The BCS announced Sunday evening that Ohio State will play LSU for the championship game. I am breathless with anticipation. Ok, that may be a bit overkill, but I am a bit amped and have had three cups of coffee already this morning! I am hoping they show up for the game and they at least make it exciting. Guess I get to bust out my buckeye necklace one last time this season... Go Bucks!! I will now step down from my crazed fan soap box.

buckeyes ranked number one

The new rankings are out and Ohio State has jumped into the number one position!!! Now I am aware that all their big games are coming up and they have played teams that were not up to their caliber but many are saying "National Championship" game again this year. While I disagree, of course, with the sportscaster that thinks Oklahoma will go home with the championship, we are all allowed to voice our own opinions. I think the Buckeyes have what it takes to win this year. If not I will once again drown my sorrows in a pint of brewed bliss. Either way I am sure I will enjoy the ride.
