Well, nothing like a weekend to remind you of the true meaning of fall in Wisconsin - football, rain, more football and of course... more rain. Drake had his second game of the season on Saturday in a torrential down pour. Like any good mother, I stood, trying to wrangle Grady away from the looming puddles, while watching 20 boys running and tackling each other through sleeting rain. The boys had fun and looked like little mud monsters when they were done. Nothing beats getting tackled in a HUGE mud puddle, and no I am not talking about Grady! I had the good fortune of having my soccer game cancelled on Sunday thus preventing me from a puddle jumping extravaganza. Believe me, there is nothing worse then the smell of soaking wet soccer cleats!!
This weekend also marked a painful loss for the Buckeyes. They obviously did not get the memo about the game on Saturday night. I can't even believe I stayed up to watch most of it. Thinking of the game still pains me. HELLO!! It was suppose to be their time to shine... sigh. No such luck.
Speaking of getting demolished - my childhood house got smooshed this weekend by one of the huge trees in our yard. It makes me so sad to see my old house that way and to think that huge tree is gone. Thankfully no one was hurt but I can't imagine the cost that is going to be involved in trying to fix a century home.
On a happy note, Drake finally got his new glasses. the first pair of glasses made him look like a bug. No seriously, they did. Hubby tried to surprise me by taking Drake to pick them up a few weeks ago. When I walked in the door from work I could not hide my horror. This is what I saw:
Scary isn't it?? I feel bad because I think I actually shrieked at the sight of him then had to back peddle because I hurt his feelings. Slap another Bad Mommy Star on the mantle boys and girls! I returned those glasses and out we went to search for new ones. I have not had a chance to snap a picture of his new specs but they are quite dashing. Maybe once he finally pulls out his front tooth that has been loose for months... But that is another story for another day!

(not so) wordless wednesday - the 80's divas return
As I had previously mentioned one of my fellow soccer divas, Pam, hosted an 80's prom party for our GNO!
Our favorite girl Mel came too! She shattered both her knee caps in our first outdoor game of the season. Nothing but love for her!
Krista was Prom Queen for real back in the day. Gotta love a girl that can juggle the ball in a sea of lace, while drinking a beer!
BTW, I wore the white dress and seriously rocked the 4 inch 80's bangs. Grady told me I looked bootiful!
Be sure to check out other WW participants HERE and add your link if you are playing!

lassie rantings
Jes, from ova here, came to keep me sane during my little hood garage sale. Her estrogen treasures evened out my male dominant finds, so it was a match made in heaven. We were pretty productive and got rid of some of our outgrown toys and such. But something happened that, for some reasons, shocks and really bothers me. I had someone steal clothes from my garage sale. Now, my boys are not macked out in designer duds and these clothes were marked to sell. Most were priced from 50 cents to a dollar - no high retail in my garage! But as I was reorganizing the table I noticed somethings missing, two outfits in particular. Now you are probably wondering how I noticed but as I put out the clothes I was having my little 'flashback to when Grady was small younger and fit in these cute little things moment'. Grady had three little Carter's polo romper type outfits that I always thought made him look extra cute and like a tiny man. They were some of my favorites and I had a hard time parting with them (lame I know). So when I noticed they were no longer on the table I was taken aback. Why would someone steal them? They were priced for a dollar and I would have easily been persuaded to mark them down even more if they would have asked. But they didn't, they just took them. Hubby tried to be the devil's advocate by saying if they had to steal them they obviously could not have afforded them to begin with. Which I understand, but really, you could have asked. Dude, I would have packed up all my clothes and given them to this person for free - If. They. Asked. It was a garage sale if they hadn't noticed. Just trying to get a little something something for all the crap treasures I cleaned out of my basement for three straight weekends. Yes, the lassie is bitter. Not what people who may be reading me for the first time want to hear I am sure - so for that I apologize. I will try and make lighter posts in the coming days I swear!!
So you don't think I am a crabby, selfish, ranting fool, I will mention that I know that I have been blessed in many ways. I do go out of my way to share and give back whenever possible, but it also erks me to no end when people are deceitful and sneaky. (oh, here is that negativity again - sorry!) I should also mention that most of the money from my sale is going to her because she is extra special to us and I can't wait for her to sail.
I will now jump off my angry soapbox and take my aggressions to the field. As I look outside I see dark and foreboding clouds laughing at me. Great! Cold, windy weather and possibly rain - just what this soccer lassie asked for....not!

infuriated lassie on a rampage

Lady Dragons you strike again. When I thought you could go no lower you proved me wrong. Filing a grievance was quite malicious even for a team so despicable. That, my dear girls, is stooping down into the bowels of bad gamemanship. I do however find it oh so ironic that you wait until Friday to file your complaint when the game was almost a week ago. Even more intriguing is that your stats show you to be 0-5. Hmmm, can't seem to get a win eh? Have to resort to fighting dirty and without just cause? The referees comments and insights about the so called 'incidences' were not enough? He claimed we played an extremely fair game. Why do you question skill? We, as a team, do not anger easily but I should give you some fair warning. My suggestion to you is to start rubbing elbows with the scheduler because out next meeting will not be so pretty.
I will take much joy in dancing around those slayed dragons! Mooo ah ha ha

rantings of a soccer chic

I wasn't going to go here, but after much pondering and many, many nagging thoughts about this psychotic team I played last night, I felt the need to vent. Oh you Lady Dragons, I think you are playing way out of your league. We have no room for your poor sportsmanship and lack of, shall I say, skills?? Shoving other players because they beat you to the ball is not looked upon highly, neither is hacking at their ankles. And you, oh over confident goalie, should not dive head first towards a ball at an opponents feet and then scream foul. While we, the Cosmos, do follow the so called 'halo rule', it does not include plays that involve lack of forethought. It also does not encourage you to hunker down, with your face level to your opponents foot, when they take a shot on goal. This is just...well.... stupid. And to make matters worse, when the game is over, you neglect to shake hands and say 'nice game', which would have demonstrated good sportsmanship, when you were massacred 7-0. But who am I to point out your short comings?? No, you were able to demonstrate that at too well when you tried to pick a fight with two of my fellow teammates after the game about roughing the goalie. (Please see previous statements about the stupidity of the aforementioned goalie). For some strange reason your goalie felt that no one should come within 20 feet of her, let alone touch her in any way. Obviously she has not been playing long or she would know that the goalie takes the brunt of the games shots as well as contact with other players. Typically goalies come towards players with their feet, not their heads, thus taking out opposing players as they charge the goal. But this would mean that she had even the smallest inkling of how to play soccer, which by her demonstration last night, she does not. I can't wait to see what she does when outdoor begins in three weeks and her goal box triples in size! Maybe they will be moved down a league by then...one can only hope!

double sock phenomenon

Two pairs of socks, two games and four goals (technically five but I won't go there). I am sure this makes no sense to anyone outside the so called 'soccer world', but it has been lurking in my mind for two weeks now. I have played soccer forever, or at least my knees would say it feels about that long. As long as I have played I have only worn one pair of socks. If you play you would say this is an oddity as almost everyone else wears at least two. (This does not including third world countries and those crazy enough to play in their bare feet) Because I have very wide feet AND high arches I have always had a hard time finding soccer shoes. But finally the gods of soccer took pity on me and developed shoes for women - who'd a thunk it?? Anyway, I have had these shoes for three years now and they have stretched out rather nicely. After being razzed and continuously questioned by various teammates for only wearing one pair of socks, I decided to give the "double sock" thing a try. I have to say it felt amazing! There was no sliding or slipping inside my shoes and when I would plant my foot, it actually stayed. After week one I thought it was perhaps a fluke but week two was even better! I know this theory probably won't last much longer and my streak will soon come to an end but the coincidence is quite intriguing. If it holds maybe I will have a career on the women's national team after all. Watch out Missy.... her I come!

there is nothing like....
...kicking ass and taking names. Guess that is a bit conceited but we have not dominated a game like that in a long time. My friend Krista had a double hat trick (if that is even possible) and we won 9-1. What disgruntles me is the other team's lack of fair play once they fell behind. As I have stated before I don't like to play with whiners and even worse is a whiner that plays dirty. Obviously the girl on the opposite team playing defense was a bit confused as to what sport she was playing when she body checked me into the plexy glass to prevent me from completing my play. I have quite the bruise on my hip to prove it. When she resorted to sucker punching me in the side all bets were off. Yes, I partook in an act that was unbecoming of a lady. I used a few choice words, noted her obvious lack of skill and shoved her off of me. I am not proud and she should be thanking the loving gods above I did not knock her lights out. She then had the nerve to yell at the ref for calling a direct kick when her goalie slide tackled our player out of the box. Hello?!? Again she should be thankful we, as a team, did not revolt on her. But enough venting.... I apologize for my emotional spewing in my blog. I feel much better now :)

no sleep for this lassie
Yesterday my husband was kind enough to go and pick out more cold medicine so we could both get a good night sleep. Our house has been infested with germs and we keep recycling the same cold/germs amongst ourselves. So we are basically both huge snotty messes. Throw in some coughing and hacking and a few good sneezes here and there and you will have the perfect picture of our sick selves. As I was brushing my teeth my husband was also nice enough to open the two Tylenol pills for me. I was exhausted from a long weekend of grunt work and a very physical and exciting soccer game. I drearily took the pills, popped them in my mouth and chased them down with a shot of water. As I climbed into bed I was almost asleep upon hitting the pillow. A few minutes of pre-sleep chatting and I was off to dream land. Until... 15 minutes later when all of a sudden I was jolted wide-awake. I felt fine and I was WIDE-awake.... why?? Oh well now let me tell you. I was wide-awake because my loving husband purchased extra long lasting, non-drowsy day formula of Tylenol cold. He might as well have slipped me an upper because there was not one ounce of drowsiness in my body. He on the other hand, was fast asleep. His years of dabbling must have made him immune to the speed like effects of the Tylenol. Not to worry!! Every once in a while I would give him a good jab or shove to remind him that I was WIDE awake while he lay there sleeping like a newborn babe. I am hoping my continued coffee buzz will get me through another soccer game tonight in the cold damp weather...yuck! We do get to play under the lights which is a bonus and reminiscent of days of old. Pretty fitting since I would often play games back then without much sleep too.
